Shorewood News 9/1/13
Dear Shorewood Community,
We are very excited to begin the 2013-2014 school year in our new building. Thank you to Shoreline voters and the State of Washington for supporting the Shorewood High School Replacement Project.
Our first day promises to be a celebration of the new building as we begin the school year with a special assembly and orientation activities for all students. While parents and community are always welcome at Shorewood High School, we do ask that parents and community restrict visits to school business, and that all visitors check in to the main office at all times. This will allow staff to focus on a smooth start to the school year for students.
Please plan to join us for a community wide celebration and open house scheduled for October 12, from 1-4 pm when the School Board will dedicate the building and open the facility to the public.
Please read below for important details that will impact the operation of school for the first two-three months of operations. We thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation:
TRANSPORTATION: Drop-off , pick-up and parking will be congested until November, when new parking lots and the permanent bus areas will be completed on the west side of the campus. Everyone should expect delays, especially during the first week of school.
RESTRICTED AREA: The parking lot east of the building and closest to Aurora Avenue with an entrance from 175th street is closed to the public during school hours. This area is restricted to school busses, staff parking, and contractors. Towing may be enforced.
FLAG POLE/FRONT DOOR AREA: The paved loop access from 175th street is still under construction. This area is restricted to special education busses only until 8:30 am and from 1:30 pm on. School buses take priority at all times and towing may be enforced.
PARKING: Public parking for the first three months of school is restricted to the temporary parking accessed off of 170th street on the south side of the campus.
SHORT-TERM VISITOR PARKING is available from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm ONLY in the designated spots on the north side of the building by the flag pole for periods of 30 minutes or less. This loop will be for special education busses only before 8:30 am and after 1:30 pm. School buses take priority at all times and towing may be enforced. Longer term parking is available in the temporary lot accessed off of 170th street.
STUDENT DROP-OFF and PICK-UP POINTS:
1) PREFERRED AREA - Student/Staff/Visitor Lot. Enter from 170th street. There is a short gravel path from the parking lot to the new building.
2) LAST RESORT - Ronald Waste Water Plant located at the corner of Linden Ave and 175th St. has offered their driveway for quick drop-offs. Parents will need to enter from Linden and exit onto 175th. No parking or waiting.
3) ALTERNATE - Families may find it most convenient to drop students in safe areas 1-2 blocks from school to avoid congestion.
BIKING and CARPOOLING to school is encouraged. There are bike racks at all approach points to the school. Students should lock their bikes when unattended.

Shoreline Area News has a small article about the demolition (pretty spectacular as it gets going!). Pretty interesting to read the comments as well - lots of happy/sad...
News July 2013
The next phase of Shorewood will be getting under way in July, with the demolition of the existing building to be followed by construction of parking and the fields and tennis courts. Look for the demolition to begin at the north end along North 175th as that area needs to have a parking area complete before school starts in September.
Usual construction hours apply, beginning at 7 am. The fence has gone up around the old Shorewood site, and demolition will follow over the summer.

Declaration of Surplus – Shorewood High School Furniture and Equipment – Authorization for Disposal
Prior to the demolition of the original Shorewood High School buildings, the entire contents of the building, consisting of student and teacher chairs, desks, tables, other furniture, fixtures, equipment, etc. will be repurposed as needed within our district and selected items will be stored for possible future needs.
Per Policy #7251, the remaining supplies, furniture, fixtures and equipment will be ready for surplus and disposed of in accordance with State law. The District will advertise at least 30 days prior to the sale in the Seattle Times, a newspaper of general circulation in the school district, and to any public or private school that these items are available for purchase.
Items will be sold at a one-day public auction held by the James G. Murphy auction company during the last week of June 2013 at the high school. (emphasis added)
CURRENT REVENUE SOURCE: After auction expenses, any remaining revenue will be deposited to the program where the purchase was first incurred.
The Superintendent will be recommending Board approval to declare surplus the excess contents residing within Shorewood High and authorize disposal in accordance with State law.
